About Who We Are

The Twainstein Mission:
To restore peace of mind (and rising test prep scores) to anxious graduate school applicants.

Twainstein was conceived as a one-stop shop to help graduate school applicants gain admission to their dream schools by walking them through every phase of the 16-week process, from test preparation to school selection to fine-tuning essays and proper interview preparation.

Our Name

Twain: Poet. Einstein: Analyst. Twainstein: Part poet, part analyst.

Top 20 MBA programs look for applicants who demonstrate quantitative analytical abilities but can also communicate with sophistication, persuasion and a bit of flair. In short, part poet, part analyst. We strive to present all our applicants to the adcoms as Twainsteins (pronounced twayne-styne).

Twainstein’s Core Principles

Passion

While living passionately can be exhausting, we believe it is better to live exhausted than to live uninspired. Our instructors are full-time test prep experts; this isn’t an after-hours gig to us, it’s our passion. Translating that passion into higher test scores for you is our mission.

Value

While competitively priced, our courses are not cheap. Nor is the level of instruction, resources or overall experience you can expect. Every single page of our books and each lesson in our classes has been systematically developed with only your test day success in mind.

Simplicity

Our namesake Albert Einstein embodies our approach to test prep instruction with his famous quote: “Make things as simple as possible, but never simpler.” Our unique 80/50 method emphasizes anxiety-reducing test strategies over re-learning math content.

Founder

After beginning his career as sportswriter for the LA Times, Twainstein founder Avi Lidgi has since devoted his career to helping frustrated GMAT/GRE students succeed since 2007. In 2012, after many years as the lead GMAT/GRE Director for two of the nation’s biggest test prep companies, Avi set out to fix the broken test prep industry. Tired of seeing students fail to improve their scores, in 2012, he founded Twainstein. Today, he brings his passion for helping aspiring MBA’s and graduate school applicants to Twainstein’s classrooms. His only mission: To help anxious college hopefuls slaughter the test prep and land a coveted spot in their dream school.

Patrick Cole

Mark Twain

Wordsmith/Namesake

Twain, or ‘Mark’ as he’s known around the office, embodies the spirit of humanity and wit perhaps better than any other American figure. In addition to being a brilliant writer (and one half of the name Twainstein), he was also an incredible teacher. Mark believed that teaching was the most noble profession, and those who do so with great care for their students are akin to saints. Now, while we’re no saints, we care deeply about our student’s experience—and their success.

“’Tis noble to teach oneself, but still nobler to teach others—and more gratifying.”

— Mark Twain

Albert Einstein

Albert Einstein

Math Nerd/Namesake

Einstein, or ‘Al’ as he’s known around the office, first joined Twainstein in 1912, a full 100 years before the company was even created. Well, his spirit did anyway. Einstein’s academic approach—reducing difficult concepts to simple ideas—inspired our 80/50 Method and forms the backbone of our “math-light” GRE/GMAT curriculum.

“Make things as simple as possible, but never simpler.”

— Albert Einstein
